The Only Way to Get Washboard Abs

After each New Year people make New Year’s resolutions. So many people make a resolution to lose weight or get into better shape. Usually during this period I see a lot of new faces in the gym and this year is no exception. The big goal for anyone who tries to get rid of fat, is to get washboard abs. It is the holy grail of fitness.

But unfortunately most of these new faces go away one by one, because they can´t fulfill their goals. Some people have regarding getting a washboard stomach is that you should be working all these muscles separately. You can´t somehow divide the muscle up and work at it section by section. It does not work that way folks.

All the ab muscles are going to contract simultaneously. You can target certain areas slightly more than others, but you can not isolate one muscle from others. Isolated exercises stimulate less muscle fiber and this is not what we want. A good exercise that works very well is the Swiss ball. If you do crunches and sit-ups on the ball ,then you also have to balance yourself on the muscle, which stimulates more muscle fibers. It is also much better for your lower back. You can do so many different exercises with the Swiss ball.

I would say that your diet is even more important than exercise, because if you have a layer of fat, then nobody will see your abs. Doing ab exercises will not burn the fat around your belly. You can burn fat with cardio training and also weight training.

The only way to get washboard abs is to do the correct exercises that really work. You also have to watch your diet and burn fat with cardio and strength training.

5 Pieces of Abdominal Exercise Equipment for your Ab Workouts

People are always looking for the best ab exercise equipment and here is a run-down of 5 pieces of equipment that you can use in your ab workouts (for pictures and full descriptions of more than 50 abdominal exercises check the resource box below).


#1 The Stability Ball (Exercise Ball)


The stability ball is a great piece of equipment. In addition to increasing range of motion for crunches and other abdominal exercises, the stability ball also improves your balance and coordination. You can start with the basics such as regular crunches or oblique crunches.


After mastering crunches you can move to something more challenging such as roll-ins or piques. In roll-ins and piques your feet are placed on the ball while your hands are on the floor.


The stability ball ab exercises are a good addition to your ab workout.


#2 The Medicine Ball


The medicine ball is simply a weighted ball. Although some people may think that medicine balls are only for boxers and athletes, medicine balls can really enhance your core workout.


When basic crunches or other ab exercises become too easy, adding resistance in the form of a medicine ball is a great way to increase the intensity of your ab workout. Some of the best medicine ball exercises are seated Russian twists and medicine ball toe touch crunches.


#3 Ankle Weights


Medicine balls are a great way to add resistance to your upper body, and ankle weights are a great way to add resistance to your lower body.


Ankle weights can increase the intensity of reverse crunches and leg raises. When regular leg raises become really easy, you can add ankle weights to increase the muscle work in your abs.


#4 Cables or Resistance Tubes


Here is another way you can add resistance to your abdominal muscles to break through strength.


You can perform cable crunches from a low cable tower by lying on the floor and holding the resistance behind your head. Or you can perform cable crunches from a kneeling position.


The cables add a very different feeling to your abdominal muscles because of the constant tension from the weight stack, so your abs get a burn throughout the entire range of motion.


#5 Ab Wheel


The ab wheel or power wheel is just what it says it is. It is a wheel with a stick in between it. You basically use the ab wheel for roll outs, and this is a very challenging abdominal exercise.


There are hundreds of ways to work your abdominal muscles, and above are just 5 good pieces to include in your ab workouts.


An if you don’t have any ab exercise equipment available, the floor is always a good option. Some of my favorite ab exercises are bicycle crunches and the plank. So no excuses. Start working your abdominals.

Ab Workouts: Working For That Six Pack

There is probably no part of the body that more individuals want to work out and look good than the abs. A slim flat stomach for the gals, and the six pack abs have almost become a symbol of fitness or being “good looking” for the guys. Good ab workouts aren’t hard to find, but different ab workouts are better suited for different individuals. It can’t be hard to know what specific needs your abs have at that moment.

Not every person’s road to a great six pack set of abs is going to look the same. Depending on what type of ab workouts you have done before, the exercises and styles of ab exercises you need to take your stomach muscles to the next level could be way different from what someone else needs. Having a variety of quality ab workouts is also important because different exercises affect the muscles in different ways. In the same reason that you can’t keep building bulky muscle by using the exact same workout over and over again, you should vary the exercises, reps, and intensity of any ab workouts that you are using to sculpt your physique.

The hardest part with ab workouts is to stay committed. First of all, you need to understand that if you have a big beer gut, you should still do ab exercises, but that before you ever get anywhere close to a six pack, you will have to lose some of that body fat covering up the ab muscles.

If you prefer to avoid the gym, then the best way to work out at home could be by looking up pilates. Pilates has been on fire recently, and this allows for a number of basic ab workouts that normal ab movements can’t come close to replicating. The nice thing about Pilates is that the movements are easy to earn and the exercises are easy to do from a technical stand point, while causing absolutely amazing results. Pilates are also easy to do from home, allowing you to sculpt out a great six pack while keeping away from prying eyes.

These are some of the best ways to start the types of ab workouts that will give you quick results and sculpt out the figure that you’ve been aiming for. The abs can be the hardest to stick with since it takes so much work and the results can take the longest to show. Stick with the great and effective ab workouts, however, and once you see the results you’ll be happy you did.

Ab Exercises – the Facts for Sexy Abs

Ab exercises are one of the most popular, and yet, most controversial topics in the exercise and health/fitness industry. Hundreds of ab belts, ab gadgets, ab gimmicks, and ab exercise machines have flooded the exercise market for people looking for sexier and flatter abs… that sexy six-pack abs appearance that everybody wants.


The problem is that most of the ab exercises that are recommended all over the internet, and in magazines, etc, are not necessarily the best method to get that six-pack abs appearance. First and foremost, the most important aspect for great looking six pack abs is losing the extra stomach fat that is covering up the abs. To be honest, most people already have decent abs underneath, yet the six-pack is simply covered up by all of that extra flabby belly fat.


Instead of focusing so much on ab exercises to make your belly flatter and more like a six-pack, you will lose much more abdominal fat by focusing the majority of your workout time with special combinations of high intensity full-body, multi-joint exercises. The best exercises for losing that sloppy ab fat are the exercises that work the largest portions of the body at once.


Exercises that work the much larger muscle groups of the legs, upper and lower back, and chest give you the biggest metabolic bang for your buck in terms of ab fat loss. Combining these types of big multi-joint exercises in high intensity super-set, tri-set, or circuit fashion gives you the biggest fat-burning and metabolism boosting response from your workouts.


And that is one of the best kept secrets for flat sexy abs that are actually visible as a six-pack!


Now when it comes to ab-specific exercises, another mistake most people make is mindlessly pumping away with hundreds of crunches and other meaningless abdominal exercises that barely give your abs much resistance to work against. If you want to actually develop your abs to the best extent possible, don’t waste your time with exercises that you can do more than 20 or 25 reps… that means you are definitely not doing an exercise that provides enough resistance to the abs. Exercises that give you enough resistance to get you down into the 6-15 rep range per set works great for the abs.


Generally, higher resistance ab exercises that provide a much larger stimulus to the abdominals come in the form of exercises that involve raising/curling the legs and pelvis either upward or inward closer to the trunk. A couple great examples of these higher resistance ab exercises are hanging leg raises or knee raises using a “pelvic curl up”, or an exercise like lying hip thrusts. Many times, the same people that can do 80 or 100 crunches, can’t even complete more than 2 or 3 properly executed hanging leg raises, because they simply have never worked the abs under heavier resistance.


If you really want tighter flatter abs that look like a six-pack, remember that losing that extra stomach fat is actually the MOST important part. Also, when it comes to ab-specific exercises, always remember higher resistance exercises that involve curling/raising the legs and pelvis upward or inward are what develops the abs to the best extent possible.
