Great Ab Workouts

A large amount of folks wish to be certain they get great ab workouts, but think that great ab workouts need them to spend a ton of time on the floor doing crunches. That’s a terrible misconception to have, myth to have, as there are such a lot of great alternatives to doing heaps of crunches. If you dislike getting down on the floor, great ab workouts are still in your grasp. Let us take a look at some of the gut muscle exercises that can cause great ab workouts without the need for OTT crunches.

It is significant that you have mastery of crunches on the floor for great ab workouts, but once you’re good at them, you do not have to keep doing them. Think about moving to crunches on the ball for great ab workouts that work other muscles and help your balance, too. Great ab workouts featuring ball crunches can really help you get less neck and back strain, since the angle of the body is a great deal different on a stability ball. If you keep crunches on the floor out of your great ab workouts, try them on the ball to see a massive difference.

Another reason that great ab workouts include crunches on the ball instead of crunches on the floor is that ball crunches increase the range of motion you can experience in your spine. Why’s a good thing? Larger range of motion thru your backbone means more muscle work in the abdomen and that you are rather more likely to turn good ab workouts into great ab workouts.

What makes it part of great ab workouts? The plank is a wonderful exercise for people who want to improve their core stability, and it can actually help add strength to the abdominal muscles, hip girdle and shoulder girdle.

This position puts highly small quantities of stress on your back. If you’re just starting to add Russian twists for great ab workouts, you can do it without adding any extra resistance. For great ab workouts that involve more challenge and a tougher overall workout, try employing a weight or a medicine ball to make things a lot harder.

You will find these slanted boards in most gyms, where they are used for side bends and back extensions. Side bends make great ab workouts because they can help bolster your obliques and could be a real challenge. For great ab exercises that are the best, try these instead of side crunches. The range of motion and the power are much higher.

If you abhor crunches, there’s no reason you can’t have great ab workouts using one of the thousands of different methods to get stronger and look better. Check out your options today. You may be stunned by how straightforward great ab workouts can be, and by how few of your least favorite exercises they can include.

Flat Stomach Exercise- Your Ultimate Guide

Everybody wants a toned and flat stomach, but not everybody has the discipline and determination to obtain one. Let’s face it: You cannot get an instant abs by just sitting around and eating junk foods all day. You have to move your body and cut back on fatty foods. It may take a lot of hard work, but the rewards will be worth it. You can start your journey to model-like abs with the following flat stomach exercise routines.

The first kind of flat stomach exercise is the basic crunch. The basic crunch works out the muscles in the upper abdomen. Start this exercise by lying with your back against the floor or exercise mat. Put your hands on the back of your head or cross them in front of your chest. Bend your knees so that it forms a 90 degree angle with your feet. With this position, lift your upper body closer to your knees as if touching them. Do this while keeping your feet in place and using your abdominal muscles to lift your upper body. Then slowly return to your original position. Repeat this around 15-30 times. After doing this exercise, you can feel pain in the upper abdomen. Do not worry because this is a sign that the exercise is working.

The second is the reverse crunch which is a flat stomach exercise that works out the lower abdomen. Start this exercise by lying flat on the floor or exercise mat and place your hands near your hips. Then slowly lift your legs with slightly bent knees around six inches above the floor as if touching the chest. By this time, you will feel pressure in the lower abdomen. After this, slowly lower your legs back to the floor. Repeat this 15-30 times.

The third is the oblique crunch which works out the sides of the stomach. Start this exercise by lying against on the floor. Place right foot flat on the floor with right knee bent forming a 90 degree angle with the foot. Then put left foot on top of right knee and place hands on the back of the head. From this position, bring your right shoulder closer to your left knee while contracting the sides of the abdomen in the process. Then, slowly go back to the original position. After 15-30 repetitions, switch sides and bring left shoulder this time to the raised right knee. Repeat this for another 15-30 times.

No matter how much abdominal exercises you do per day, the results will not show if you have layers of fats covering your stomach. Therefore, it is important to shed off these fats through cardiovascular exercises or aerobic exercises. These types of exercise must be done for at least 30 minutes per day. Some common examples of cardiovascular exercises include running, cycling, brisk walking, dancing, swimming or any activity that can help you sweat and keep your heart rate up.

Now that you have been introduced to flat stomach exercise routines, hopefully you can follow these and see your stomach shape up in no time.

The Best Ab Workout for 6 Pack Abs

Men and women everywhere spend countless time and energy looking for the best ab workout they can find. Having a tight firm stomach has become something of a status symbol that denotes a healthy fit body. Getting a set of 6 pack abs does take work and dedication to the goal that is set.

Everyday there is not shortage of TV and internet advertisements that cater to this very need. Everything from fat burning, appetite suppressing pills and potions to the latest ab exercise machine that twists and turns your body into all sorts of pretzel shapes are being sold to the six pack crazed public these days. Those fitness models and other “beautiful people” they feature in those commercials probably didn’t get those bodies using whatever it they are trying to sell. They worked hard to get their bodies in shape and they continue to live a healthy lifestyle to stay that way.

No matter how many ab specific exercises you do on those machines or doing 1000s of sit-ups and crunches you will never get those hard firm abs you’ve been looking for without making some changes to the way you eat and exercise. You can have a 6 pack but nobody will see it if it’s hidden under a layer of fat.

That’s right, the best ab workout doesn’t just focus on the abdominal muscles but the health and fitness level of your entire body. By focusing on living a healthy lifestyle that includes eating right and doing a variety of different exercises that work the entire body you can have the type of abs you see on those commercials.

It will take some work and dedication to achieve that washboard stomach but the steps needed are actually quite simple, if you have the desire to do them. If anything just look at those fitness model in those commercials. They look that way because they made a conscious decision to get in shape.

The best ab workout to get a set of 6-pack-abs consists of the following three things.

1. A Healthy Diet – You are what you eat. That old saying is true in so many ways. Everything you eat or drink has an effect on your body, whether it be good or bad. The human body needs and demands certain forms of nutrients so that it can run at optimum efficiency. Giving it the nutrients and calories it needs will increase metabolism and burn away excess fat.

2. Weight Training – If you weight train you will naturally strengthen not just the muscles specific to the exercise you are doing but also your abdominals and lower back because these are the muscles that stabilize the body during any form of physical activity. It will also increase lean muscle mass which require large amounts of caloric energy just to maintain.

3. Aerobic Training – Aerobic or cardio exercise is a good way to burn excess calories and strengthen the entire cardiovascular system. Get out and take a walk, go for a bike ride, or any other form of activity that you enjoy doing.

Getting a set of six pack abs will take time, how much depends on what kind of shape you are currently in and how dedicated you are to that final goal. Just remember that the best ab workout is a combination of diet and exercise. By making healthy lifestyle choices you can have the body you always dreamed about.

Oblique Abdominal Exercise With Exercise Ball

The primary objective of this exercise is to increase the tone and strength of the oblique abdominal muscles. We have previously discussed the toning of the main (rectus) abdominal muscles. This exercise is very similar, but with a little twist.

Like the main abdominal exercise, you prepare for this exercise by sitting in a normal folding style or kitchen chair. You then place your exercise ball (also known as a therapy ball) on your lap. If the exercise ball is properly sized for your body, the ball should allow you to extend your arms over the top of the ball without without too much upward deflection. Now separate your knees about 8-10 inches to help stabilize you while doing the exercise. You may be surprised to know that a lot of folks fall off the exercise ball the first time they use them because they are not used to balancing in a seated position.

Now, place both of your arms over the ball keeping your elbows
extended (which means straight) and your arms shoulders-width apart. With your arms over the ball you are ready to start the exercise and strenghten your oblique abdominal muscles.

Step One: Take a deep breath in.
Step Two: While slowly letting your breath out, try to touch the left elbow and the right knee. Of course, you won’t be able to touch, but the idea is to move the left elbow and right knee toward each other. Just keep the arm and elbow locked straight; now raise the right thigh and knee up on an angle toward your left elbow. Try to steadily breathe out the entire time you are squeezing the ball.
Step Three: Rest for two or three breath cycles.
Step Four: Repeat on the opposite side.
Step Five: Repeat 5 – 8 times for each side.
(If you would like to see pictures of this exercise, please go to www.home-rehab-supply.com and click on the “Exercise Tips” section.)

This abdominal exercise should be comfortable for the low back.
If you encounter shoulder pain, you can try bending your elbows
90 degrees.

This exercise should be preceded and followed by the Abdominal
Pre/Post exercise stretch to warm up the tissues and prevent injury.

Warning: Therapeutic exercises should not significantly increase pain during the exercise. Increased pain or symptoms could be a sign of a more serious condition and you should consult your health care professional for guidance.

Lose Belly Fat–why You Can’t Spot Reduce

For those of you looking to lose belly fat, it’s important that you have the right information in order to achieve your goals. If you’ve been doing countless sets of crunches, leg raises, or any other direct abdominal work in attempt to lose that spare tire, then you have the wrong information.

In this article, I am going to show you why it’s impossible to lose belly fat no matter how many crunches or leg raises you do, and I’m going to reveal the right way to go about it.

It’s really quite elementary, or so it would seem. If you want to lose belly fat, then you obviously have to work your abdominals. That’s what you’ve been told, so you go and hit the abs from all angles.

You do crunches for the upper abs, hanging leg raises for the lower abs, side crunches for the obliques. That should help you lose belly fat, right?

Wrong!

You’ll never lose belly fat by doing all of that abs work. Sure, you’re going to have strong abdominal muscles. You might even have a six pack, but you’re never going to see it until you lose that roll of fat covering them up.

The reason that you will never lose belly fat that way is that you just can’t spot reduce. By spot reduction, I mean that you’re only losing fat in one area of the body.

It is therefore impossible to lose belly fat, and then not lose fat throughout the rest of your body.

In order to lose belly fat, you have to have a total fat loss plan. Fat won’t just disappear from your abdominal region simply because you’re doing every imaginable abs exercise. That’s not the way it works.

Fat loss occurs in the body as a whole. That means that if you want to lose belly fat, you have to have a fat loss strategy that burns fat throughout your body.

To lose belly fat, you have to change your workout focus away from direct ab work, and instead start doing the types of exercises that really burn fat. That’s heavy, compound exercises like squats, deadlifts, presses and rows. These exercises work most of the muscles of the body, along with their stabilizers. This, in turn, helps to release the hormones responsible for muscle gain, and fat loss. You can’t get that from crunches, or leg raises, and definitely not from side bends.

You also have to do cardio, but not in the way you’ve been taught. To lose belly fat, you have to do high intensity cardio. That low intensity stuff won’t produce a hormonal response the way high intensity, interval cardio does.

Simply put, high intensity cardio releases fat burning hormones, and revs up the metabolism in a way that slow, steady state, and long duration cardio never will.

Aside from heavy compound exercises and high intensity cardio, if you’re serious about losing belly fat you must also eat a healthy and well balanced diet to really lose that belly fat.

By healthy and well balanced I mean a diet that includes plenty of fruits and vegetables, lean meats such as chicken and fish, nuts (unsalted), and whole grains. Notice I didn’t mention anywhere that you must starve yourself. That’s not the way to lose belly fat, and it’s definitely not the way fat loss works.

If you starve yourself, or deprive your body of any of the macronutrients (i.e. proteins, fats, carbohydrates), you won’t lose belly fat. Instead, you’ll end up messing with your metabolism. Essentially, you’ll end up slowing down your metabolism and stopping your fat loss before it even starts.

So, to really lose belly fat, you can’t try to spot reduce it away. Spot reduction does not work. Instead, you must focus on fat loss in the body as a whole. You have to include compound exercises, and high intensity cardio. And, you absolutely must include a healthy and balanced diet.

5 Pieces of Abdominal Exercise Equipment for your Ab Workouts

People are always looking for the best ab exercise equipment and here is a run-down of 5 pieces of equipment that you can use in your ab workouts (for pictures and full descriptions of more than 50 abdominal exercises check the resource box below).

#1 The Stability Ball (Exercise Ball)

The stability ball is a great piece of equipment. In addition to increasing range of motion for crunches and other abdominal exercises, the stability ball also improves your balance and coordination. You can start with the basics such as regular crunches or oblique crunches.

After mastering crunches you can move to something more challenging such as roll-ins or piques. In roll-ins and piques your feet are placed on the ball while your hands are on the floor.

The stability ball ab exercises are a good addition to your ab workout.

#2 The Medicine Ball

The medicine ball is simply a weighted ball. Although some people may think that medicine balls are only for boxers and athletes, medicine balls can really enhance your core workout.

When basic crunches or other ab exercises become too easy, adding resistance in the form of a medicine ball is a great way to increase the intensity of your ab workout. Some of the best medicine ball exercises are seated Russian twists and medicine ball toe touch crunches.

#3 Ankle Weights

Medicine balls are a great way to add resistance to your upper body, and ankle weights are a great way to add resistance to your lower body.

Ankle weights can increase the intensity of reverse crunches and leg raises. When regular leg raises become really easy, you can add ankle weights to increase the muscle work in your abs.

#4 Cables or Resistance Tubes

Here is another way you can add resistance to your abdominal muscles to break through strength.

You can perform cable crunches from a low cable tower by lying on the floor and holding the resistance behind your head. Or you can perform cable crunches from a kneeling position.

The cables add a very different feeling to your abdominal muscles because of the constant tension from the weight stack, so your abs get a burn throughout the entire range of motion.

#5 Ab Wheel

The ab wheel or power wheel is just what it says it is. It is a wheel with a stick in between it. You basically use the ab wheel for roll outs, and this is a very challenging abdominal exercise.

There are hundreds of ways to work your abdominal muscles, and above are just 5 good pieces to include in your ab workouts.

An if you don’t have any ab exercise equipment available, the floor is always a good option. Some of my favorite ab exercises are bicycle crunches and the plank. So no excuses. Start working your abdominals.

Basic Abs Diet Guidelines For Women

If you want to build muscles, particularly abdominal muscles or what we commonly refer to as a “six pack”, your diet (which we’ll call an abs diet) needs to be rich in protein. However, you may wonder exactly how much protein should be in your food in order for you to reap the maximum benefits. You may also wonder if you should cut down on or leave out the other food groups. You also need to know that in terms of content, the abs diet for women is very much different from the abs diet for men. And depending on a woman’s body size, the quantity of food in each abs diet service can vary.

Foods that are high in protein are the main requirements in an abs diet for women. If you want to have an attractive six pack, eating high protein foods is a must. While you won’t be eating as much protein foods as men who are on an abs diet, the foods on your abs diet menu are going to be similar overall. For instance, your abs diet will consist of several lean meats like chicken and turkey. Your abs diet will also include plenty of fish, eggs, milk, and protein drinks and bars. Be careful eating the latter, though, because many protein drinks and bars have high sugar content. Make sure that you read the label first.

Aside from the protein-rich foods, your abs diet will also include fresh vegetables. And if you really want to have attractive flat abs, you will have to refrain from eating fatty foods, junk foods and high sugar foods. Needless to say, you will need to avoid eating fast foods and greasy take out foods.

Just because you are on a high protein abs diet does not mean that you have to avoid carbohydrates altogether. You also need to eat carb foods. For best results, eat foods that are high in fiber and are of the wholemeal varieties. Avoid consuming white bread and food products made from bleached flour. Your abs diet can include foods that are rich in carbohydrates such as brown rice, potatoes, oatmeal, high fiber cereals and breads.

When you are on an abs diet, eat moderately. Avoid eating large amounts of foods. Instead of eating two or three big meals a day, eat small amounts several times a day. Not only doing this will help your metabolism, it will also prevent you from having a bloated and tired feeling after every meal.

So that’s it — a basic abs diet for women that you can follow whenever you are ready to start building your abs. Incorporate this abs diet in your daily routine, exercise regularly and you are on your way to having great abs!
